Once you have submitted your application form online, the following recruitment and selection steps 1 to 6 are taken. For more information about career paths/jobs please see the information beneath the steps below.

Step 1
  • Application form submitted.
  • Application is successful – having met the criteria for the apprenticeship you have applied for,  you will be invited to take an initial assessment. 
Step 2
  • Following successful completion of assessment, you will be invited to attend an interview. 
  • If successful at interview stage, you will be sent an Conditional Offer to join the Apprenticeship Programme. This offer will be subject to satisfactory pre-employment checks (references, medical, Disclosure & Barring check etc) 
Step 3
  • Whilst we are waiting for the pre-employment checks to be received back, a member of the team will arrange for you to have a meeting with managers to secure a potential placement. 
  • We will confirm your secure placement to you.
Step 4
  • Once all your pre-employment checks have been received and we are happy with them, a member of the team will confirm a start date and the placement of where you will need to attend on your first day. we will also confirm who you need to report to. 
Step 5
  • When you join the Apprenticeship Academy, you will be sent an invitation to attend a Corporate Induction Event with the Mayor ofDudley and Senior Management Team along with other new apprentices. 
Step 6
  • You will meet with your course assessor on a regular basis to complete the required assessments over a 12-14 month period. You will also have regular 1-2-1 support from your line manager.

Career Paths/Jobs

During an apprenticeship you will complete an NVQ level 2 standard with specific training selected to fulfil the requirements of the role you will be undertaking. There may also be the possibility of additional training that may help you progress to an Advanced Apprenticeship and an NVQ level 3 standard (this will be subject to availability).

  • All apprenticeships include key skills such as English, Maths, ICT, personal learning and thinking skills, most will also include a technical certificate.
  • Throughout your training you will work closely with an assessor and your manager who will support and assist you to achieve your standard.
  • During your placement, you will be working within a team, gaining experience of key work disciplines and expectations to help make you ‘work ready’
  • You will also learn new skills and undergo personal development as part of your standard.
  • You will have the opportunity to apply for vacancies within the council. If you are not successful in gaining employment with the council and you have nearly completed your standard, we will discuss with you options available. This may include options with our learning providers to pursue other standards, the opportunity to join the councils own internal Temp Solutions Recruitment Agency which provides casual work placements across the council.
